Subscribing to the CPLR Committee Public Forum

The CPLR Committee Public Forum is a list moderated by members of the CPLR Committee.  Lyris software is used to administer the list and this software offers flexibility in how the members of the list participate.

If you wish to become a member, send an e-mail to Steven Critelli (scrit@idt.net) or Paul Aloe (aloe@amlaw.com) or go to the nysba-cplr web page by clicking on the link below: http://lists.nysba.org/index.cgi?enter=nysba-cplr&text_mode=0 [bookmark the page for future reference.].

At the web page, you will be given an option to enter your name if you are already a member or an option to join the nysba-cplr list.   Once you are approved and signed to the list, you will receive a welcome message.  You should then go to the nysba-cplr web page again.

Sign in by entering your e-mail address, leave password blank, enter and the next page you see will be the nysba-cplr page with four buttons: Read Messages, Create A New Message, Your Settings, and Leave (unsubscribe).  Go into your settings and, if you wish, you can set a password for entry into this web page or leave blank (your choice).  This software gives you the power to control the manner in which you participate in the list.  In the Status area of Your Settings, you can elect to receive no e-mail (via your e-mail program) and instead view all the messages at this website.  [At present all messages will be archived.]  You can elect to receive an e-mail digest once a day, which would give you all the messages within one "digested" e-mail or you can elect to receive an index of the subject headers.   You can elect to see your own messages when they are distributed via e-mail (the default setting) or to exclude your own messages.  You can also elect not to receive an acknowledgement that your e-mail was received (the default setting) or to receive confirmation.

You may send e-mail to the list by addressing it to nysba-cplr@lists.nysba.org.  You may also prepare and send a message to the list from the nysba-cplr web page itself by using the Create A New Message button.  [When e-mailing the list from your e-mail program, make sure your e-mail is in plain text format, not html format, otherwise your message will be relayed with unnecessary html formatting codes which make it difficult to read.]

You can easily unsubscribe from the list by going to the nysba-cplr web page and selecting the Leave button.  There you will be given a choice to confirm your decision to unsubscribe and, if you select that option, you will be unsubscribed from the Public Forum list.  Also, any e-mail that you receive through the nysba-cplr list will contain instructions on how to unsubscribe by sending a blank e-mail to an address specified in the e-mail.

Lastly, the Public Forum list is used by lawyers to exchange ideas and observations on the practice of law in New York.  It is not intended as a forum for members of the public to solicit free legal advice. Further, members of the list are expected to behave with proper decorum and civility.  Any member of the list who, by his or her unbecoming conduct, abuses the privilege of membership may be removed without notice.
