This is an introduction to our web site

The Committee on Civil Practice Law and Rules monitors current law and proposed amendments to New York's code of civil practice and associated court rules. The Committee also observes current legal practice in order to give voice to matters which are of concern to the bar. We issue a report on most legislative proposals. We also develop original legislation which we believe is necessary or useful to the practice of law in New York.

Our web site is intended to serve as a central clearinghouse for members of our committee as well as members of the bar interested in CPLR related issues. From this page, you can track CPLR legislation introduced in the legislature for the current session (the 2001-2002 session) or the last session (the 1999-2000 session).   We also have archive of bill summaries from prior legislative session (the 1997-1998 session).    Importantly, our committee also proposes legislation which is designed to improve the practice of law.  We also have links to legal periodicals, law journals and other legal research sites.  Our pages are updated frequently, so check back here often.

The Committee is not an advocacy or political group. The membership is made up of a wide cross-section of the bar association, including members of the commercial bar, the personal injury bar (representing both plaintiffs and defendants), law professors and judges. We welcome your suggestions and comments on any proposed CPLR items, or CPLR changes you believe should be made

We welcome you to join our public discussion forum, and invite your your comments on any CPLR related issue. Your views and opinions on CPLR issues are important to us.
